if you like tmobile and are sticking with them then I say go for it. one of our IT guys is big on the newest phones and so him and I talk alot about the new ones. we are not so much into blackberrys but from what I heard this is probably the best smart phone for tmobile. i read its the first tmobile phone to support 3G so thats huge and can make calls over wifi. it looks slimmer compared to other blackberrys so thats also a big bonus. I've heard rumors that the HTC HD2 may be coming to tmobile next year as its being carried on tmobile UK now. Not sure if you can hold out that long, and not to mention that its still a rumor and most new HTC phones come to Verizon or Sprint first. I'm curious to see if and when the HTC Diamond 2 comes to the states.
get a real service provider imo. really though if your contract is almost up, or even if its not and you just want a new phone i'd be lookin at the droid with verizon, palm pre with sprint, or iphone with att.
if i had a choice at the moment it would be a pretty tough decision between those 3. droid has a nice interface with a huge pretty screen. slide out qwerty, which can be annoying tbh due to the lag between opening the keyboard and the phone flipping to landscape mode. best keyboard to type on by far though.
palm pre is just pretty and you dont have the lag when opening the keyboard since its vertical. downside is small keyboard so not as easy to type on.
finally iphone is pretty much universally the best phone functionality wise, only thing that holds me back is the fact that it has no physical keyboard, which i think in the end i could deal with
blackberrys are solid functionally and will pretty much do whatever you need, i just dont like how they look with the keyboard taking up half the thing and the screen being half as small. browsing the internet on phones is already painful enough, the bigger screens on the iphone and droid make them much better for surfing the web
i've got the Pre and I love it. its has its goods and bads like any other smart phone. I really like the size, it comes with this little cover thing that completely protects it in my pocket so I don't have to have that a stupid belt clip for my phone. I stopped wearing this (the belt clip) with my old HTC but it was big and bulky in my pocket (kinda like my cock), with the pre there is no problem. it can run multiple apps at the same time which no other phone can do. the two major negatives I can think of is no video camera (just normal camera) and its only 8gb of memory and it doesn't support any memory cards or can't be upgraded so sometimes it runs a bit slower than i like. but i'm a fan, plus it syncs with itunes
I like blackberry bolds, but always thought they just weren't up to par on web browsing....
what do you guys think about for me to exchange my HTC TP for an HTC TP2??? They are out for Sprint now, but I'm not sure how much it would cost me to exchange.
i like the TP2 over the TP but the TP2 is a bit bigger in lenght and width (its a tiny bit slimmer). i think it looks better and seems to have some cool features but I don't think you'll be able to get it at a deal. unless you trade in your TP in which it might work. Go on the HTC website and check out the Touch Diamond 2. when you go into your contacts it sorts everything communication wise you've done with that person. So I pull up Boon, it has all text msgs, all pic mails, all emails, calls, IMs, etc regarding Boon right there.
yea but diamond has no physical keyboard, so its a completely different phone. touch pro 2 looks way prettier than the touch pro, well the verizon version atleast. much bigger screen looks like since you dont have the bottom quarter taken up with the buttons.
a mentally challenged monkey would be able to contribute more to this conversation then me....(just in case anyone was wondering where my input was; no cell phone knowledge here)
wow Pex, I didn't catch that. And then I just read somewhere that Diamond users were complaining about the on screen keyboard and all they did for the Diamond 2 is make a better on screen keyboard. i still haven't seen an on screen keyboard i like
Heres my opinion on physical vs. on screen keyboards, after having used my touch pro for 5-6 months:
For texting the slide out keyboard can't be beat. I text a decent amount, so its a big plus. At this point having to type out texts on the on screen keyboard would just be annoying.
On that note, even though I text a decent amount its only about 20% of my phone usage. The rest of the time is spent looking up drugs, checking email, phone, and web. For those things I prefer the vertical view as opposed to landscape, so I don't even bother sliding out the keyboard. On top of that, as I've already mentioned before, the lag when sliding out the keyboard is annoying enough that it'll prevent me from using it sometimes even when it would be easier. So for those tasks I end up using the on screen keyboard, typically with the tip of a pen.
Soo basically, if texting isnt a huge concern then the physical keyboard is pretty un necessary. Thinking about it, if I could get an iPhone I would. Term and bosk I know you already have physical keyboards so you already know whether it is now a must have for your future phones or not. I think the only real way for me to know or not is to try a phone without one and see if I really do miss it, and tbh I dont think I would.
my keyboard on HTC Mogul was sooo good. The one on my pre while OK is really small. The other thing to think of regarding a keyboard is they add thickness, especially on HTC phones. While they are bringing the size down, it still adds thickness. Thats why I like some of the HTC touch keyboard only phones (and similar phones like the iphone)in regards to its size. With the pre its like they said you can have a keyboard that won't add alot of width, but its smaller. I do mistype a bit and if I'm typing out a long text or email my hands start to feel cramped. My pre also does not have a keyboard on screen option like most HTC's do which would be nice as if I am in landscape mode I have to flip it to type.
I've only dabbled on the iphone but i'd like to try it some more. My mom's touch keyboard on her BB Storm is horrid. I've heard that the storm 2 has fixed it a bit. But truth be told I'm not getting a new phone for at least a year so we'll see how the typing technology advances in the next coming months.
i plan on taking my TP to the sprint store this weekend to evaluate trade ins for both the TP2 (mainly) and the pre (curiousity).
boon sorry to steal the thread...but I would go with the new bold if you really like blackberry's. I do feel that inherently they are weaker due to the smaller screen than the rest of the phones available now.
blackberrys are great if your main focus is communication. Email and texting are much smoother on a blackberry. The other advantage to haveing a blackberry is BBM which I know alot of peeps get so they don't have to get unlimited texting.
i don't like touch screen keyboards so any phones that have that feature are off limits. i also don't like pull out keyboards. they are very practical, but i feel like a 12 year old girl when using it. dunno why, but that's just how i feel, so i stay away from those too. i knew i wanted a blackberry b/c i loved my old one, but i definitely needed a full keyboard, so i went with the new bold and am very happy with the purchase.
as for service providers, verizon is a lot better than tmobile, but i cant get over the cost differences. i pay $60/month for 1000 anytime minutes, unlimited data and unlimited texts. verizon is $100/month for only 450 minutes, 500 or so texts, and unlimited data. the service isn't that much better where i'd be willing to pay double every month just for a comparable plan
