Facts about the Obama Speech

Comments? I am extremely interested to see where this presidency ends up and if people will still love him after he can't come through on half his promises.

I lol'd at the "we invented the car". There are kids who know who invented the car. (all thanks to Gran Turismo). And the whole people who can't pay their mortgages will get help only if they are deserving, not if they bought a mansion outside their means? Who is going to decide that? What about those Ford plant workers who were making a stupid salary for doing a job that would normally pay half of that and then their plant closes? Is that their fault that their over paying job got cut?

wont be able to listen to this til i get home from work, but i didnt vote for him basically becuase i knew the majority of the stuff he said wouldnt happen, mainly because its virtually impossible for him to follow through on all of his claims....but basically in this country all you have to do is be able to BS and have good public speaking to be popular, and he has that for sure....

you can even take small comments like sports stuff....about a year ago he was a die-hard bears fan (when campaigning in illinois i believe)....then just recently the steelers all of a sudden were his "1A" team.....and not too long ago when the devil rays were a popular team he publicly hopped on that bandwagon....same thing with this support for the bcs. hes just going to say anything that will win public opinion, which apparently works

overall, i think the speech was good. yes, he is saying a lot of stuff but that's partially b/c we need some positive influence during these times, which he excels at. i'm not sure where he is going to find the money for all of his proposals...that remains to be seen. but why are you hating on a guy so much when the person you should hate is bush for giving us a trillion dollar deficit?

maybe a german man did invent the car, but we took it to a new level with assembly lines. i'd rather him screw something like that up rather than not being able to complete a 3rd grade sentence.

the other thing that annoys me is basing opinions off other people's views (not directed towards you scotty). the dude who wrote that super right winged. reading his piece is like watching a michael moore movie.

i didnt listen to the speech so i cant comment about how id feel about it as a whole, but after reading this article which only focuses on the negative i'm forced to think it was bad, just kind of reinforcing what nate was saying

overall though even without this speech i dont think i agree with the stiumulus plan

yea i mean i didnt see the speech either so i wont comment on the article....just was voicing my opinion on obama in general but i guess that could be said for all politicians.

i guess on the plus side, i get an extra $13 on my paychecks now apparently due to some shit he signed. not sure what thats supposed to do but whatever, two more pints at the bar a month

As said in the article; Clinton was the president who pushed for the bank de-regulation that was a big factor in the housing crisis. This isn't just one person's opinion, but a lot.

Nathan- promises doesn't make a person great, performance does. You will absolutely never hear me talk high about Bush; in fact, I hate him about 20 times more than Obama. I do have to lean towards Prime's opinion though- since when does positive words (BS) mean that a president is great?

I judge Obama two major things thus far- 1) the market performance has continued to plummet with him in office, ESPECIALLY on the days when he signed the stimulus, etc. This means that people who invest, aka people who know money, think this package is BS. 2) This money is going to come from OUR pockets and our KID'S pockets to fund the $1bn 2010 census and continuing to reward people for doing absolutely nothing. Don't act like "it is yet to be seen where he gets the money from," you know that he will get it from you and me.

For someone who was once for inspiring competition and seemed to favor best man for the job sure does seem quite fond of rewarding some companies/people who don't deserve the time of day.

i'm not for his plan necessarily, but you are knocking a dude who has been in office for 30 days. just b/c there was a change of office doesn't make the economy magically start getting better. it could take years for our economy to turn around, so don't expect the market to respond simply b/c there is a new president. the market would have probably kept dropping regardless if there was a a new stimulus or not. these are bad times throughout the world, not just the US.

secondly, you can tribute most of our shitty economy to the housing market like you said....but i was referring to our deficit. pumping 30 billion dollars a month (or whatever it is) to Iraq is what i was talking about

I agree with both comments, but it is interesting that the market took large step changes down when the stimulus was announced, the autos were bailed, the stimulus was signed, etc. And Bush keeping us in the war for so long obviously killed our deficit; I have always had strong opposition to the war in Iraq.

I just really think this stimulus package is complete BS in places and it pains me when I see that 65% of the nation supports it based on national polls.

Oh yea, another thing that pisses me off (this is small) is that Obama specifically said he would go through each line of any bill signed to cut excessive spending, then makes a comment that Republicans are being picky with spending on 1% of the bill. Hopefully his definition of picky does not mean the spending of 1% is excessive, but rather on things they don't want.

Ofc I have just as much scorn for Republicans in Washington than anyone else.

net increase or do you think withdrawing from Iraq will end up lowering the spending? I am not quite sure how to read this article (in judging how much is extra or whatever).

I'm a bit confused by that CNN article. And my confusion is not the article itself but why are we sending more trops to Afghanistan??? I mean Iraq I understand a bit more because of the oil situation but fuck Afghanistan. I know they are like the terrorist hang out. But we could send all of our troops over there and still miss thier hide out cave. Let that place be.

booncakes said...

Afghanistan is where we should be. Iraq is the place we ended up b/c of oil greed by Bush.

/agreed with nathan

but I am not sure the actual progress there to say if we are 'done' or not
